Artist’s Statement

Adrienne Sherman

Art is a mystery, especially for me as the artist. My work remains anchored in historic context, and as such, brings a different perspective to old tales. I have participated in the mystery since childhood, but found it as a professional venue in 1975, and have continued.

My work was originally in the abstract and was shown and exhibited as such from 1975 to 1989. After many years of travel in Italy on vacations, I began to draw and paint in a representational mode. The influence of Italy was tremendous. In 1992, I began to show paintings that were very much influenced by the Italian Renaissance.

I continue to paint under this influence. Additionally, I have found inspiration from the world around me, dreams, and stories of others. Each painting becomes a fairytale for me.
